Torsten Meyer is professor of Art Education with a focus on contemporary media culture at the University of Cologne (Germany). Before settling in Cologne 2010, he was assistant professor for art and media education at University of Hamburg (Germany), where he was also (in 1993) co-founder and for a long time head of the MultiMedia-Studio *mms. He studied educational sciences, sociology and philosophy at University of Hamburg and University of Lueneburg (Germany) and visual arts at University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. As a former member of a postgraduate degree program in “Aesthetic Education” hosted by German Research Foundation (DFG) in Hamburg, he gained and holds a Dr. phil. from University of Hamburg (doctoral thesis: “Interfaces, Medien, Bildung” 2002). His academic work focuses on education "within the New Medium", educational media theory, art and media education, reforming schools and the advancement of higher education. He had been speaker at numerous conferences and is author and/or editor of several books on art and media education; some of the latest include: Education within a New Medium (2008), Kunst Paedagogik Forschung (2009), Sujet supposé savoir (2010), Kontrolle und Selbstkontrolle (2010), Medien & Bildung.
