Thomas Gokey is a visual artist. He has an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is a PhD candidate at the European Graduate School. He is actively involved in several experimental schools, most closely with The Art School in the ArtSchool. He also teaches at Syracuse “University.”
Recent projects include:
GutenbAAAAARG, a DIY printing press that helps people create hand-bound physical books using AAAAARG.ORG.
The LibraryFarm (in collaboration with Meg Backus and many others), a half-acre collective farm on public land at the Northern Onondaga Public Library.
A Supplement to the Texas US History Textbook, a wiki that allows Texas high school students research and write their own history textbook focusing on the elements that were removed and/or distorted by the Texas Board of Education.
He is currently selling his tuition debt from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) dollar for dollar as a work of art, all $49,983 of it.
