Bio

Tasha Darbes is a doctoral candidate and a research assistant at NYU’s Institute for Globalization and Education in Metropolitan Settings. Tasha's research focuses on language acquisition, language ideologies and language education in plurilingual and transnational contexts. She has worked with immigrant communities in a variety of settings, most recently developing curricula which combine theater, ESL, community empowerment and digital video. She is also co-producing a documentary with Chloe Smolarski called “Admissions” which explores issues of undocumented youth in higher education and emphasizes the psychological effects of exclusion and transnationalism. She holds degrees from Brown University and the New School for Social Research.
