Dr. Browner is the former Academic Vice President and Dean of Faculty at Berea College, a liberal arts college in Kentucky much esteemed for its history and mission. Her accomplishments at Berea include increasing faculty diversity, leading the college through a successful reaccreditation review and strategic planning process, and designing and implementing new curricular initiatives. As a member of the president’s leadership team, Dr. Browner contributed to a wide range of college-wide initiatives and projects, including health care policy renewals, enterprise risk management, and building renovations. Off campus, her work included securing $2 million in new funds, serving as a lead designer of three statewide conferences on energy policy, and working with the city on projects such as bike trails and farmlands. Dr. Browner's scholarship has appeared in leading journals including PMLA and American Quarterly. She is the author of two books, one of which, Profound Science and Elegant Literature: Imagining Doctors in Nineteenth-Century America (University of Pennsylvania, 2005), was named an Outstanding Academic Title of the Year by Choice magazine. She has served on the Editorial Advisory Board of The Bedford Anthology of American Literature and currently serves on the Board of Networked Interface for Nineteenth-century Electronic Scholarship.
