Ryan M. Patton is assistant professor of art education at Virginia Commonwealth University. Previously, he taught high school art in theSouth Bronx and animation and game design with the Smithsonian Summer Associates.
Patton co-created an augmented reality game called CitySneak, whichexplores disrupting conventions of public space and surveillance withsmart phone devices. He also designed and produced a set of modular electronic switches intended for youth to design video game controllers. Patton was also involved with Penn State’s Studio Lab, acollaborative space merging laboratory experiments and data analysisin the social science tradition with gaming and aesthetic design inthe fine arts context.
Patton's current research interests include: technology in arteducation, games-based pedagogy, physical computing, data visualization, visual culture, and urban education.
