As executive director of the School for Global Education & Innovation at Kean University and president of the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE), Dr. Michael Searson has had the opportunity to work with international educators on the topic of mobile learning. This work has included both policy-oriented discussions and participation in some hands-on global mobile learning initiatives.
As a member of the leadership team for the recent EDUsummIT 2011 at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, he is working with a group of international leaders on an action plan, which will include the role of mobile learning in across the globe. As president of SITE, he has access to a number of academic presentation and publications related to the topic of mobile learning. Additionally, SITE hosts a robust SIG dedicated to mobile learning (see http://www.mobilelearningsig.com/).
The combination of these activities has given Searson access to a cross-section of global mobile learning perspectives and practices. These include involvement with first 1-1 iPad project in a Chinese public school, a project where students from several countries used mobile devices to tell community and family WWII stories, the role of OER in international mobile learning environments.
