Manu is an Associate Professor of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning (CTL) and a researcher in the Learning Sciences Lab (LSL) at the National Institute of Education (NIE) of Singapore. He received a Master of Science in Applied Statistics and a doctorate in instructional technology and media from Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. He also has a Master of Education from the NIE and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) from the National University of Singapore. As the assistant director of interactive and digital media R&D in education with the Ministry of Education of Singapore, Manu directed S$40m into jumpstarting research on interactive and digital media in education in Singapore. In his research, Manu conceptualized the notion of Productive Failure and used it to explore the hidden efficacies in the seemingly failed effort of students collaboratively solving design problems in online settings. His current research extends this line of work across the modalities of classroom settings in Singapore. Manu has published in the top journals in the field, and is frequently invited to give talks and keynotes at major conferences and universities around the world.
